Beneficial Use

The purpose of this screen is to enter the beneficial uses that this permit would serve.

NOTE: Check Instrument Header for Instrument details filled in so far.

Check any/all of the options that hold good for this application.

• Domestic

  • Enter the number of houses served.
    
    NOTES:
    1. The number of houses served should be three or less.
    2. Non-commercial watering totaling to 1 acre or less can also be filed under domestic.
    3. Maximum gpm is 25.  
    
    If any of the above mentioned conditions exceed, the beneficial use must be designated as 'Miscellaneous' and then described in detail in the Remarks section.

   

• Stock Watering

  • Enter the number of stock tanks.
    
    NOTE: If feed lot operations are involved in this
    application, or if more than 25 gallons per minute of instantaneous flow is required, or if any of the stock tanks are more than a mile from the well, the beneficial use must be designated as 'Miscellaneous' and then described in detail in the Remarks section.

   

• Irrigation

  NOTE: Watering of commercially grown crops (large-scale lawn watering of golf courses, cemeteries, recreation areas, etc.,) is miscellaneous use .

   

• Municipal 

  NOTE: Use of water under this beneficial use must be confined to incorporated towns and cities only.

   

• Industrial

  NOTE: Check this beneficial use if the water is to be used for a long term for the manufacture of a product (water floods, power plant water supply)

   

• Miscellaneous 

  • Select the Sub-Uses or multiple Sub-Uses from the list.

  NOTE: On selecting "Other" as the sub-use, the system will populate a text box. Enter the name of the other sub-use in that text box.

   

• Coal Bed Methane use

  The State Engineer’s Office considers CBM production different than traditional natural gas production. It is similar in that the water is not the object of production; the methane reserve is the target. CBM production is different than conventional gas production due to the necessity for production of water for the production of the gas resource, thus the production of water is a requirement of the production cycle. The intentional production, or appropriation, of ground water for the CBM production led to the designation of CBM as a beneficial use of water and subsequently, to a requirement for a permit to appropriate the ground water.

   

  Coal seams in many areas of Wyoming have been and continue to be important sources of ground water to appropriators for uses including, but not limited to, stock and domestic. Wyoming water law requires that water rights be administered on the basis of prior appropriation, giving rise to the necessity of permitting all beneficial uses from the water source in question.

   

  Enter the permit number obtained from the Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, also called the American Petroleum Number (API)

   

• Monitor, Observation 

  This option should be selected if the water is being used for Water level measurements or chemical quality sampling, where no water is put to beneficial use.

   

• Test Well 

  This option should be selected if the user is going to construct a test well to determine if a viable water supply exists.

   

• Click Save.
