Point of Use

The purpose of this screen is to enter the land description, ownership, and beneficial use information about each Point of Use.

NOTE: Check Instrument Header for Instrument details filled in so far.

 

IMPORTANT: Fields marked with asterisk are mandatory.

 

If you have the complete land description, you can enter it directly in the Point of Use Entry Screen.  If you do not have the Public Land Information Survey System (PLSS) information, you can use the GIS to help you determine the Point of Use's PLSS description.

II. Enter Point of Use Details Directly

If you know all the Point of Use details, you can enter them in the Point of Use Entry Screen directly.

NOTE: GIS PLSS covers the entire state of Wyoming along with a few townships into the adjacent states.  This PLSS coverage is still under development by the Bureau of Land Management.  A few areas, particularly in the western portion of the state, are not complete.

 

To Enter Point of Use Details Directly:

NOTE: You can select ALL if the Point of Use covers all sections within the township and range selected.

NOTE: You can select ALL if the Point of Use covers all quarter sections within the section selected.

NOTE: You can select ALL if the Point of Use covers all quarter-quarters within the quarter section selected.

NOTE: survey number applies to some survey types like lots and tracts only.

NOTE: Survey Suffix is rare and applies to some survey types like lots and tracts only.

NOTE: This entry should be left as Unknown unless you are certain of the survey system.

NOTE: You can use the GIS to display the approximate location of state and federal land ownership.  You can also use the identify tool (See GIS Help) to view the details about the state and federal land ownership layer.

NOTE: If the land owner name is not one of the drop-down options, select the Other option and type the owner name in the box to the right.

NOTE: If you select a use of Other, it must be explained in the Remarks Section of this application.

NOTE: Only some beneficial uses have a sub-use.  If you select a sub use of Other, it must be explained in the Remarks Section of this application.

NOTE: Enter acres only when the beneficial use is Irrigation.

NOTE: This applies only when there is a secondary, supplemental, or reservoir supply type (When filling SW1) or when there is additional supply, enlargement and overfilling involved (When filling UW5).

NOTE: Click Cancel to clear the entries.

 

System saves Point of Use/owner information.

II.Determine Point of Use PLSS Using GIS:

IMPORTANT: Please click the View/Hide Map if the map section is not visible on the screen.

 

You can determine the Point of Use PLSS using the GIS tool in two simple steps.  First, zoom to the Point of Use vicinity as explained below.  Second, click Get Point of Use and then click within the quarter-quarter where the Point of Use is located on the map.  Refer to GIS Help for details.  

Step 1: Zoom into the Point of Use Vicinity:

You can zoom to the Point of Use vicinity by entering any of the following spatial parameters. Please enter the following parameters in the "Zoom to my location" section placed to the right of the map section.

 

  1. Enter Administrative Area Parameters  

  2. Enter PLSS Parameters  

  3. Enter Water Right Information

 

On entering any of the above parameters the map display is updated.

Step 2: Locate Point of Use  on map

NOTE:  The GIS PLSS covers the entire state of Wyoming along with a few townships into the adjacent states.  This PLSS coverage is still under development by the Bureau of Land. Management.   A few areas, particularly in the western portion of the state, are not complete.

NOTE: Every Point of Use must have a record created for each combination of location, beneficial use, land owner, and source supply.  For example, if there are two Points of Use in the same PLSS quarter-quarter with different sources of water, then a separate record must be completed for each source of water.  Similarly, if there are two different beneficial uses within the same quarter-quarter, then a separate record must be completed for each beneficial use.  Finally, if there are two different land owners within the same quarter-quarter, then a separate record must be completed for each land owner.
